Thank you for undertaking the role of Education Officer for your unit! You have assumed a challenging position that will undoubtedly benefit and enhance the lives of all of your Marines.

Please note the UEOs (Unit Education Officers) are not expected to be subject matter experts in all areas of voluntary education. There are resources and an entire Education Center staff here at MCAGCC 29 Palms to assist you! Please do not ever hesitate to contact us. If you would like the Education Center to provide in-person briefs and/or workshops to your Marines on anything related to Tuition Assistance, the GI Bill, or just general education, we are happy to accommodate these requests. Call us at 760-830-6881 to discuss and schedule. It is strongly recommended that you attend a Tuition Assistance workshop to familiarize yourself with TA policies and procedures.

In addition to promoting and providing education guidance, you are responsible for the Voluntary Education Functional Area Checklist. In the event that your unit undergoes an inspection by the Inspector General during your tenure as UEO, a staff member from the Education Center will work with you to ensure that all of the items on the Checklist are being met (or better yet, exceeded!). You can find the most up-to-date checklist for Voluntary Education below. It is our strong recommendation that you reach out to the Education Center very soon after your appointment as UEO so that we can work with you to make sure that your unit is GTG on the Functional Area Checklist so that you are ready at inspection time. We will gladly go over the list with you at any time, and we are available for “mock” inspections to ensure readiness. Remember, these inspections are typically conducted every two years, so chances are good that you will have one.

When you are appointed UEO, you will need to have a UEO appointment letter on file. That template can be found below. Upon your appointment, please identify yourself as a UEO to the Education Center staff so that we can add you to our email distribution list to keep you abreast of all Voluntary Education happenings aboard MCAGCC 29 Palms. When you eventually leave your post as UEO, please do let the Education Center staff know who is replacing you.
